FAQs

  • Why choose Sonoma Mountain Financial?
I became a financial advisor later in my career because I wanted to help people. I know meaningful wealth building comes from a combination of financial acumen and dedication to well defined goals. As an independent advisor, I am invested in every client’s success and understand that this will look different for everyone. As a fiduciary in advisory relationships, I am legally and ethically bound to act in your self interest. I do not take commissions and am not incentivized by third parties.
  • How do you get paid?
As a fee-only independent advisor, my recommendations are driven by your financial goals. I don’t take commissions nor am I incentivized to sell specific products. The annual retainer fee model allows us to continually adjust your strategy as goals and market conditions change over time. For individuals or families with less than $3,000,000 in combined assets under management, our annual flat retainer fee is $6,750. This includes comprehensive, on-going financial planning and investment management informed by that plan. For individuals or families in excess of $3,000,000 in combined assets under management, our flat retainer fee is based on complexity and needs of the client. I am also committed to dedicating a portion of my time to clients who may have difficulty paying the full annual retainer. Fees are discounted based on individual client situations and will never exceed 1% of assets under management. One time planning fees may also be discussed. If you’re not sure if we’re a good fit, please reach out for an introductory conversation.
  • Why do you charge so much less than a traditional financial planning firms?
I made the decision to become a financial planner because I wanted to help people. I know that can sound cliché, but it’s the simple truth. I keep my business expenses low by working from a home office and growing my business by word of mouth. I’m committed to adding value without compromising client’s investment growth.
  • Why do you charge a flat, retainer fee instead of the traditional 1% of assets under management?
I am passionate about providing transparency in pricing. While 1% is clear to some clients, it is a constantly changing number based on portfolio performance. As a fiduciary, I want to find ways to support my clients at a reasonable cost and reduce conflicts of interest.
  • Do I have to come into your office?
No. I am able to offer all of my services virtually. I can also meet clients in the Bay Area at their homes or a place of convenience.
  • What are your qualifications?
I am currently a registered investment advisor representative and have passed the Series 7 and Series 66 exams. In March 2023, I passed the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP) Exam and am in the process of completing my designation. I spent 15+ years working in Silicon Valley and have personal experience with compensation involving Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), stock options, and employee stock purchase plans. I’ve also personally experienced the financial ramifications of an IPO and start-up acquisition.
  • Why wouldn’t I just do all this financial planning myself?
Many of my clients could do this themselves. Other clients have known for years they needed help, but didn’t know who they could trust to ask. Here are a few reasons you might want a financial advisor: Feel confident that you are making financial choices that are aligned to your goals and improve your probability of success. Ensure you have a comprehensive plan in place that looks at your holistic needs across all elements of financial well-being from investments to insurance and estate planning. Have a professional third party who can help prevent you from falling for well known financial biases. Avoid making significant financial mistakes such as making fear-based decisions when there are big changes in the market. Get organized and ensure you are taking advantage of all the financial advantages available to you.
